If you’re deciding whether to join an organization or not, it’s important to remember that your happiness at work will be influenced heavily by the workplace culture. Though it might be difficult to detect before you begin work, there are several clues you can look for that indicate the strength of a company’s culture.

#1 Long-Tenured Employees

One strong indicator of company culture is the employee turnover rate. Simply put, happy and engaged employees stay with their employer for a long time. So ask, ‘how long have you been at the company?’, to as many people as you possibly can.

#2 Leaders Are Accessible

A sign of a good company culture is leaders who are accessible and easy to talk to. Take notice if leaders are visible, active, and engaged. Ask yourself, ‘does everyone I meet seem to know them?’

#3 Everyone Relates to the Mission and Values

Usually, if a company has a great culture, employees will talk about the company’s mission and values. If a mission and values are nowhere to be found, this is a reason for concern.

#4 Teams Work Well Together

Another way to gauge if a company has a thriving culture or not is if employees like being together. Co-workers who seem to enjoy one another and engage in positive ways is an excellent indication.

#5 Wins Are Celebrated

All great workplace cultures have systematic processes in place for acknowledging achievements. Look for clues or ask about employee recognition.

An organization’s culture often makes or breaks your work experience, and it can lead to either long-term employment or rushing back to the job market. For this reason, look for these 5 indicators to determine if the company you would like to join has a good culture.
