“You are never too important to be kind.”

I recently read this on a sign somewhere and felt it was very applicable to us as leaders. It’s easy to get caught up in all that is going on. With important decisions to make, deadlines to meet, issues to address, meetings to attend—things are just busy and stressful! Because of all this, it can be hard to remember to be kind. However kindness is a key ingredient to creating a healthy organization. At thecultureguide.com we often refer to this kindness as charity.

We all are touched and attracted to kindness—even the most cynical and skeptical ones of us out there. When we perceive kindness, it generates feelings of hope and love. When we are kind to others, often people want to be kind as well. When people believe you are a kind leader they will be more willing to follow and respect you. You will set yourself apart from other leaders, because unfortunately, many leaders are unkind.

People understand it is not always easy to be kind as a leader, and they will give you a lot of credit when you are. I believe kindness from leaders can change the world. Especially during this month of thanksgiving, let’s remember to be kind. After all, none of us are ever too important to be kind.
