In a recent case-study assignment, a group of graduate students were asked to debate which company would most likely succeed long-term in a competitive marketplace—an organization rich in resources yet poor in aspirations or an organization rich in aspirations yet poor in resources. 

There were great points brought up on both sides of why each company might outlast the other. In the end however, the class and the instructor agreed the company that was aspiration rich and resource poor would win out. 

How can this be? 

How can an organization that is far behind in resources win out?

Are clear aspirations really more valuable than assets? 

In most cases, the answer is a resounding YES.   

Clear aspirations provide alignment, direction, and hope to an organization. They invite people to engage and commit to a cause. They help provide meaning and purpose for work. 

The bottom line is that clear aspirations inspire people to work in a way they wouldn’t otherwise work without them.

What is your vision for the future?
