When things slow down around the office, sometimes interesting conversations start-up. One recent discussion revolved around leadership traits. The question posed was, if leaders could only have two attributes, what would they need to be in order to have the most success. While there are a lot of admirable traits that could make the list, here are the two I’d want every time.
#1 Humility
Being humble is a hallmark of some of the best leaders in history. Self-effacing leaders who appreciate and recognize those around them build strong teams. When a leader is humble, it leads to better decision making, and it enables others to do their best work.
#2 Hunger
A leader has to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Hungry leaders never ask those they lead to do something they wouldn’t do themselves. They lead by example and work hard to achieve success. Without hunger, results within a team falter.
Leaders who are humble and hungry are also most adept at implementing The Four C’s Model. Hunger is needed to put forth the efforts required to create clarity and be consistent. And a certain level of humility is required to always celebrate and have charity.
So if you ask me to choose only two essential leadership traits, I’d pick humility and hunger.
Now it’s your turn, what two traits would you choose?
